About
A pair of slow speed, shared surface east-west pedestrian priority streets that re-establish historical connections to the water's edge and reprioritise walking, cycling and urban amenity in Auckland'sAuckland's Wynyard Quarter.
These streets provide enhanced interfaces with key character buildings, authentic working waterfront activities, the marine industry and a catalyst for the emerging Wynyard Central innovation precinct.
The innovative use of water sensitive urban design (WSUD), shared surface streetscape principles and a wide range of industry-leading sustainability initiatives has delivered design innovation and exceeded Panuku's sustainability standards
This project has piloted the use of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) ''green infrastructure'infrastructure' ratings tool and is the first public realm project in New Zealand to achieve a rating. The ''leading'' rating achieved for design is the highest possible and has provided a range of industry-leading design and technical considerations that inform all LandLAB projects and specifications.
Bespoke seating recalls the sites industrial and working waterfront history, and an all native planting palette enhances biodiversity and builds on the Quarters existing coastal waterfront design language.
The projects have been featured as a case study by the National Association of City Transport Officials (NACTO). Designed and delivered under the for Panuku Development Auckland in collaboration with BECA (Civil)
