HARBOUR BRIDGE PARK
Harbour Bridge Park will be a place where people experience a special part of the Tamaki coastline. Whether they are passing through or visiting, casting a line or having a picnic, the park will provide a new connected, layered, engaging and green western gateway to the urban waterfront_
LandLAB were commissioned by Eke Panuku in 2018 to design a new waterfront open space on this culturally significant headland on the edge of the Waitemata Harbour. The project weaves together movement, ecology, recreation and infrastructure to create a new ecologically, culturally and socially rich destination at the water’s edge.
The design vision is to create a contemporary waterfront park, revealing the past and connecting people to the harbour through the articulation and layering of the coastal edge conditions, introducing rich materiality, and ecological enhancement. The organisation of the Park reprograms the existing circulation to establish generous pedestrian movements ‘slow’ along the waters edge, shifting vehicle movements ‘fast’ inland to the rear of the site. The new spaces provide for a range of episodic recreational experiences and connection to the water.
