Tauranga Moana Waterfront - Stage 001

Stage 001 (North) of the Tauranga Moana Waterfront project was recently completed and opened. It delivers the first portion of the new Tauranga Waterfront Promenade and Sea Wall and a flexible lawn space designed to support new recreational opportunities and programmed events.

Tthe first of 4 project phases that will enable the Tauranga Moana Waterfront Masterplan (developed by LandLAB) to be realised through the design concepts of Reconnect (Hononga) + Repair (Rāwekeweke) + Repurpose (Hangarua) + Renature (Tāmata) + Regenerate (Whakarito).

The Promenade transforms the waterfronts relationship with Te Awanui - Tauranga Harbour providing new opportunities to occupy and engage with the waters edge. The living seawall concept integrates habitat benches and nested eco-units creating opportunities for the harbours rich marine ecology to re-emerge on the waterfront.

The project reconnects and amplifies the city centre’s connection to the harbour through the transformation of the waterfront into a premier recreational destination. A waterfront parkland incorporating a mix of recreational, community and commercial activities that celebrate the water’s edge as the focal point for Tauranga Moana.

Client: Tauranga City Council (TCC) + Tauranga Civic Development Team Collaborators:  WSP (Coastal) + BECA (Civil/Lighting)
